The terms for using CEF Complete

01What CEF Complete is

CEF Complete is an online research tool for income investors. It covers closed-end funds and high-income ETFs: their prices, payments and payment history, discounts, news and corporate events, a screener, and, on the Complete plan, tools to track your own portfolio and income. It also offers Complete, an AI helper that answers questions about funds and about the site.

We don’t hold your money, place trades, or act for you at any broker. You keep your own brokerage account and make your own decisions.

02Not financial or investment advice

• Research and education only. Every figure, label, score, risk level, chart, projection, alert and AI answer is general information. It is not personalized investment, financial, tax, accounting or legal advice.
• No recommendations. Nothing on the site is a recommendation, offer or solicitation to buy, sell or hold any security. A fund appearing in a screen, a score or a list is not an endorsement.
• No adviser relationship. We are not a registered investment adviser, broker-dealer or tax professional. We don’t know your circumstances, and using the site does not create a fiduciary, advisory or client relationship of any kind.
• Past results are not future ones. Past distributions, prices and returns do not predict what comes next. Distributions get cut, discounts widen, leverage magnifies losses, part of a payment can be return of capital, and you can lose money, including all of it. Projections are arithmetic on the rates you enter, not forecasts.
• Your decisions are yours. Talk to a licensed professional who knows your situation before acting on anything you read here.

03Data, accuracy and delays

Our data comes from public websites, fund sponsors and public filings, and from our own calculations on them. It can be delayed, incomplete or wrong. Quotes may lag the market, payment dates we estimate are marked as estimates, and a fund’s own announcement or filing always overrides what we show.

We work to keep the data right, but we don’t guarantee that it is accurate, complete, current or available at any moment. Please check anything important against the fund’s own filings and your broker before you rely on it.

04Accounts and eligibility

• AgeYou must be at least 18 and able to enter a binding contract.
• WhereThe service is built for people in the United States.
• Your detailsGive a real name and an email address you read, and keep your password to yourself. You are responsible for what happens under your account.
• One person per accountAn account is for one person. Sharing a login, or reselling access, isn’t allowed. We may limit how many places an account is signed in at once.
• If something looks wrongTell us straight away if you think someone else has used your account.

05Subscriptions, free trials and billing

• PlansScreener, Research and Complete, paid monthly or yearly. The current prices and what each plan includes are on the pricing section of our home page. Prices are in US dollars and don’t include any tax that may apply.
• Free trialsComplete starts with a 14-day free trial, and the Screener and Research plans with a 7-day free trial. You enter a card or bank account at checkout; you aren’t charged during the trial, and the first charge is made when it ends unless you cancel before then. One free trial per person.
• Discount codesWe may offer discount codes, such as one for RMS members. A code applies only as stated with it, can’t be exchanged for cash, and may end or change for new sign-ups at any time; a discount you already have keeps the terms it was given with.
• Free previewWithout a plan, an account sees a free preview: a small sample of funds and pages. It may change at any time.
• Automatic renewalYour plan renews automatically at the end of each month or year, and your card is charged the plan’s price at that time, until you cancel. Stripe sends a receipt for each charge.
• Payments through StripePayments are handled by Stripe. Your card or bank details go to Stripe, not to us, and Stripe’s own terms apply to the payment. If a payment fails, Stripe retries it for a period; if it still fails, the subscription ends and the account returns to the free preview.
• Changing planYou can move up or down a plan through the billing page. Stripe works out any difference for the rest of the period.
• Price changesWe may change prices. We will email you at least 30 days before a new price applies to your plan, and it takes effect at your next renewal after that, so you have time to cancel first.

06Cancelling and refunds

• Cancel any time, onlineUse Settings → Plan and billing on the site, which opens Stripe’s secure billing page, and choose Cancel. Or email support@cefcomplete.com and we will cancel it for you.
• When it takes effectAt the end of the period you have already paid for. You keep full access until then, and you won’t be charged again.
• During the free trialCancel before the trial ends and you pay nothing.
• RefundsPayments are non-refundable, and we don’t give refunds or credits for part of a month or year, except where the law requires it.

07Acceptable use

Use CEF Complete for your own research and your own investing. Please don’t:

• scrape, crawl or bulk-download the site or its data, or access it with bots or scripts other than an ordinary web browser;
• copy, republish, sell, or redistribute our data, scores, research or other content, or use it to build a competing product (sharing a screenshot or a figure for personal discussion is fine);
• share your login, or let anyone else use your account (an account can be signed in on up to 3 devices; signing in on another signs out the oldest);
• get around plan limits, access controls or the daily limit on Complete questions;
• interfere with the site, probe it for weaknesses, or overload it;
• use the site for anything unlawful or to mislead other people.

We may suspend or close an account that breaks these rules (see section 11).

08Third-party services

Some features rely on other companies. Each has its own terms and privacy policy, and we aren’t responsible for their services. The Privacy page describes each role and what it receives, and we name the companies on request. A direct E*TRADE connection uses a developer key you get from E*TRADE under E*TRADE’s own developer terms.

• Broker connectionsIf you connect a broker, through our secure read-only connection partner or directly with Schwab or E*TRADE, the connection is read-only: we can read your accounts, cash, holdings and history, and cannot place trades or move money. You sign in on your broker’s own page. Your broker’s and the connection partner’s terms apply to that connection, and imported figures can be incomplete or late.
• Complete, the AI helperAnswers come from a third-party AI provider, working from data on this site. AI answers can be wrong, incomplete or out of date, even when they sound confident. They are general information, never advice; check anything that matters. There is a daily limit on questions.
• PaymentsA payment processor takes and stores payments and runs the billing page.
• EmailAn email delivery service sends our emails: sign-up, password reset, and any alerts you turn on.
• OthersHosting, charts, fonts and market data from other providers, described on the Privacy page. Their names are available on request.

09Who owns what

• Our siteThe site’s software, design, text, scores, checklists, calculations and compiled data belong to CEF Complete or its licensors and are protected by copyright and other laws. Patent pending. A subscription gives you a personal, non-transferable right to use the site while your plan is active. It doesn’t transfer ownership of anything.
• Retirement Money Secrets and RMSRetirement Money Secrets, the “RMS” name and method, and Steve Selengut’s books and writings belong to Steve Selengut. CEF Complete refers to them with his permission.
• Other namesFund, sponsor and broker names belong to their owners. Mentioning them doesn’t mean they endorse us or we endorse them.
• Your recordsThe holdings, notes and records you enter or import stay yours. You let us store and process them only to run the features you use, such as Backup and sync.
• Your suggestionsIf you send us an idea or feedback, we may use it without owing you anything.

10Disclaimers, limits of liability and indemnity

As is. The site, its data and Complete’s answers are provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy and non-infringement. We don’t promise the site will be uninterrupted or error-free.

Limits. To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for any investment loss, lost profits or income, lost data, or any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages arising from your use of the site, even if we were told they were possible. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose, or $100 if that is more.

Indemnity. If someone makes a claim against us because of how you used the site, or because you broke these terms or the law, you agree to cover our reasonable losses and costs from that claim.

Some states don’t allow certain exclusions or limits, so parts of this section may not apply to you.

11Ending the agreement, governing law and changes

• You can leave any timeCancel your plan (section 6). To close your account and delete what we keep (except the few records the Privacy page names), email us.
• We can suspend or close an accountIf you break these terms, misuse the site, or don’t pay. We may also stop offering the service; if we do, we will give reasonable notice and refund any period you paid for and can no longer use.
• What survivesSections 2, 3, 9, 10 and 11 still apply after an account ends.
• Governing lawThese terms are governed by the laws of the State of Florida, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Disputes go to the state or federal courts in Florida, unless the law where you live says otherwise.
• Changes to these termsWe may update these terms. If a change matters, we will email you or show a notice on the site before it takes effect. Continuing to use the site after that means you accept the new terms. The effective date at the top always shows the current version.
• The whole agreementThese terms and the Privacy page are the whole agreement between us. If a court finds any part unenforceable, the rest still applies. Not enforcing a term isn’t a waiver of it.
